Your jihad, if you seek to wage war against them,

is more important to you than war against the cross.

So visit Iraq's gate and the lands adjoining it

with every banded spear, its joints aquiver.

And burst the fountain of jugular veins until

the horses wade through streaming gore.

to meet you, its robes torn at the breast.

sunset's red glow has risen over their necks.

lions crouch in readiness to spring.

    A child among them—no, rather a prisoner,

his gaze lowered, cheated of his share.

the Khatti spear showed them a reveler's ways,

the watcher's eyes with a glance from you.

My sun burns the envious with mortification,

and defies the eloquent orator's description.

It has risen to its zenith, while my fortune's nadir

tugs at it with the reins of sunset.
