قامَت تُوَمِّلُ بالتَفنيدِ اِمساكي
And a sorrowful woman, whose tears parting made flow,
With yearning grief, the distance shed its tears,
Rose, hoping through reproach to make me stay.
She stood leaning, grasping my restraint.
لَجَّتshe persisted فَلَمّاbut when رأَتنيshe saw me لاnot أُصيخُI heed لَهاto her
لَجَّت فَلَمّا رأَتني لا أُصيخُ لَها

She persisted, but when she saw I would not heed her,
She turned to me, and when she saw I would not cry for her,
She wept, and her weeping eyelid wounded my heart.
She wept, and her crying eyelids wounded my heart.

وَالبينُ قَد جمعَ المشكوَّ وَالشاكي
She spoke when she saw the camels saddled,
She said, having seen the camels' litters ready,
And parting had brought together the one complained of and the complainant:
And the distance had gathered the sorrowful and the complainers:

“Who will care for me if you leave this year?” I said to her,
"Who do I have, when you are gone this year, I say to her:
“God and Ibn ʿUbayd Allāh, your patron.
God and the son of 'Ubaydallah are your Guardians."

The Pleiades to incline toward your resting place."
