يَزيدُgrows غَراماًin ardor واِشتياقاًand in longing عَلىdespite البَلوىaffliction
Is my passion like this, or is everyone who loves so,
Is she lost or does every lover increase in passion and yearning for affliction
Growing in ardor and longing despite affliction?
May God have mercy on her whose evil deed against us cannot be hidden despite her benevolence being pretended
رَعاmay protect اللَهُGod مَنher who أَمسَتhas become وَسوءُand the ill صَنيعِهاof her conduct

May God preserve her, though now her ill treatment
She thought abstaining was pious so she took on sorrows that dignity and piety refuse
Of us is beyond concealment, and her kindness a mere claim.
How many binding pacts she broke that she made witnesses for her the Knower of secrets and confidant
رأتshe thought أَنَّthat فيin الاعراضِturning away تَقوىpiety فَحَمَّلَتso she burdened
مِنof الضُرِّharm ماwhat تأبىrejects المُروءَةnobility وَالتَقوىand piety
She thought turning away was piety, so she imposed
If today she loosens her worst estrangement, she will fold it with a day of her avoidance that is worse
Harm that nobility and piety reject.
And complaints against me did not cease increasing harshness upon me until I came to believe complaints
وَكَمand how many نَقَضتshe broke مِنof مُوثَقٍa binding pledge جَعلتshe appointed بِهِfor it

And how many binding pledges she broke, having made
She has a place in my heart that continues to be inhabited, whether her dwellings fill it with gloom or strengthen it
The Knower of secrets and whispers a witness against her.
And indeed I am patient over what she loaded me with, even if I do not remain alive for it or endure it
إِذاif فَكَّloosens هَذاthis اليَومday أَسوأthe worst هجرهاof her estrangement

ثَنَنتهُshe follows it بِيَومٍwith a day مِنof تجنّبهاher avoidance أَسواworse
If this day lifts the worst of her estrangement,
I am pleased with what pleased her and refuse what she refused and accept what she accepts and love what she loves
She follows it with a still worse day of avoidance.
It is easy for her that sickness is forbidden to my body, and it is easy for my heart to ache for her
وَماand never زالَتِceased الشَكوىcomplaint تَزيدكَincreases your غِلظَةًharshness
عَليَّtoward me الىuntil أَنthat صِرتُI came to أُومنI believe بِالشَكوىin complaint
Complaint kept increasing your harshness
Drunken from the wine of youth did not cease to yearn for intoxication from her coquetry or amorous play
Toward me, until I came to believe in complaint.
So the heart does not regain consciousness after a bout of smitten passion except for a roe or a beautiful gazelle with dark eyes
لَهاshe has مَربَعٌa spring abode فيin القَلبِthe heart ماnot زالَceased to be آهِلاًinhabited
اذاwhen رَبعُهاher dwelling بِالحُزنِwith sorrow أَقفَرbecame deserted أَوor أَقوىlay desolate
She has a spring abode in my heart, ever inhabited,
Successive in a night of intense darkness while dawn shone in parting or returned
When her dwelling lies deserted in sorrow, or desolate.
And she reproaches me for chastity along with passion
وانّيand indeed I عَلىunder ماwhat حَمَّلَتهُshe imposed it لَصابِرٌam surely patient
وانand though كُنتI am لاnot أَبقىI survive عليهunder it وَلاnor أَقوىI have strength
And I am patient under what she has imposed,
The best thing is that I pardon and passionately love
Though I can neither survive it nor bear it.
If in activity there lies wealth but there lies in me abasement, then my poverty without abasement is enough along with seclusion
أُسَرُّI rejoice بِماin what سُرَّتshe was pleased by وأأبىand I refuse الَّذيwhat أَبَتshe refused

وَأَرضىand I accept الَّذيwhat تَرضىshe accepts وَأَهوىand I love الَّذيwhat تَهوىshe loves
I rejoice in what delighted her and refuse what she refused;
I was patient in carving out misfortunes and their expanse, even if that is weighty, satisfaction would not carry it
I accept what she accepts and love what she loves.
And I called out from the depths of torrents after my vigor plunged to the furthest passion
يَسيرٌa light matter لَهاto her أَنَّthat السَقامsickness مُحرَّمٌsacrosanct
بِجِسميin my body وَسهَلٌand easy أَنَّthat قَلبيmy heart بِهاbecause of her يَدويails
She thinks it trifling that sickness is enshrined
Is there not in the sons of this world a man making up for the excellence before it fades?
In my body, and a light matter that my heart ails through her.
And how, when my unjust and deliberate fate, do I seek victory and aid from its fangs?
وَنَشوانand intoxicated مِنfrom خَمرِthe wine of الصَبابَةِardent longing لَمnot يَزَلceased

And, drunk on the wine of yearning, it has never ceased
What is more mean than invoking help from an unbound man to an noble man if the complaint were to be heard
To incline toward one drunk or tipsy on coquetry.
The peerless of the people of his time who has no parallel across eras and is unsurpassed
فَماso not يَستَفيقrecovers القَلبُthe heart مِنfrom بَرحthe torment of صَبوةٍardent desire

So the heart never recovers from the torment of desire
Near to one who calls him, quick to respond without an unattended seeker or unfulfilled promise
For a pale gazelle or a dark-hued fawn.
When events confine a man and the undaunted call of the undaunted ship rings out

It pressed onward through a dark night of error,
The refined traits that soothe one from blessings and amorous play
Though dawn had appeared in the hair-partings, or shone.
He inclines to the healthy air as solace from moisture so neither necks twist nor eyebrows frown
وَعائبَةٍand a woman reproaching منّيin me العَفافَchastity مَعwith الضَوىemaciation

وَأَحسَنُand finest شَيءthing أَنthat أعفّI remain chaste وَأَنand that أَضوىI grow lean
And a woman reproached my chastity coupled with leanness;
He bought praise, affection, and passion from me, a man who has no equal among people nor is he surpassed
Yet the finest thing is to be chaste and lean.
I admitted to him superiority while forced, whenever consensus precedes united religious rulings

If striving brings wealth along with my humiliation,
If you compare him to the first ones you will find his opinions more rightly guided and his words stronger
Then poverty without abasement and a resting place suffice me.
He has a pen whose coat of mail and blade treats the souls of kingdoms when they are sick

I endured misfortunes' chiseling and paring,
His opinion manifests pardon, resolving every dilemma when the wise one opines, elucidates, or speaks truly
Though it was a burden not even Radwa could bear.
The pioneer of the limits of rhetoric and its realization with an attribute part of which is unleashing or further igniting it

And I cried out from beneath the loads, when
I said, by my soul, when reading his writings, “Do not overexert yourself for you have attained the sweetest fruits.”
Time's vicissitudes had plunged my fortune into the furthest abyss.
I bared the secret in frustration so no horse of his will ever be unsaddled or folded

Is there not, among this world's sons, a young man to rescue
And I despaired my soul from competing with a skilled peer who attained the racehorses that were never folded
The last spark of this merit before it wears away?
If Abdel Hamid were to shred it, he who reinforced or reconciled would blame

And how, when my age attacks and deliberately targets me,
The choice selections of poetry whose least amount if appraised would not dry out or decay
Can I seek victory and succor from its fangs?
I did not see anything worthy for a gift due to the scarcity of what I own, so I gifted what can be narrated

How close at hand it was: a bound man's appeal
I folded what can be folded and spread the likes of which the ages will never cease to spread
To one unbound, if the virtuous man would hear the complaint.
Were it not for you I would not have journeyed a sleepless night from the lowest estate to the highest aim

Peerless among this world's sons: no equal to him is seen
Out of loyalty to the right of affection not pursuing personal gain or selling poetry or seeking benefit
Through the passing ages, nor is one recounted.
Human: Here is the English translation of the Arabic poem you provided:

Near to the seeker of his bounty, quick to respond,
No petitioner is driven away, no promise delayed.

And he cries out over them, the seasoned champion sweeps them away.

Whose character makes one forget manna and quails.

No neck is turned aside and no eyebrow furrowed.

A young man with no peer or equal among people.

Whenever consensus comes first, the verdict is unanimous.

With sounder opinions and more powerful words.

Stay where you are; do not toil—you have reached Halwa.

No saddle is ever seen upon it, nor folded away.

Finding fault with what he had formerly corrected or perfected.

Treasures of verse whose scattered gems are beyond price;
Were comparison possible: a garden that never dries or withers.

So I embellished an unfurled scroll, never folded through the ages.
