He is sad, yet beautiful patience enfolds him.

Sad... though patience cloaks him well

He is sad, and swears: “I will not quit.”

Sad, though he vows: I will not yield

ضعيفٌ .. ويَمضي بغير التفاتٍ

ضعيفٌ .. ويَمضي بغير التفاتٍ

فدربُ المحبّة دربٌ طويلُ

فدربُ المحبّة دربٌ طويلُ

He is weak, yet goes on without looking back.

Weak... yet heedless trods ahead

For the path of love is a long path.

For love's path is long indeed

أراد الهدى .. فهَداهُ الإلهُ

أراد الهدى .. فهَداهُ الإلهُ

ولمّا استعانَ ، أعانَ الجليلُ

ولمّا استعانَ ، أعانَ الجليلُ

He desired guidance, so God guided him.

The Lord granted guidance sought

And when he sought help, the Majestic One helped him.

Help when aid was prayed and wrought

فجابت دروبَ السماءِ رُؤاهُ

فجابت دروبَ السماءِ رُؤاهُ

قليلٌ عليه الفضاءُ .. قليلُ

قليلٌ عليه الفضاءُ .. قليلُ

So his visions traversed the paths of the sky.

His visions pierced the heavens' roads

Space is too small for him—too small.

Space to him seemed scant abode

فيَمضي ، وفوق السماءِ مُناهُ

فيَمضي ، وفوق السماءِ مُناهُ

لدار الخلود ، فثَمّ المَقيلُ

لدار الخلود ، فثَمّ المَقيلُ

So he goes on, and his hopes lie above the sky,

He journeys on, nirvana-bound

Toward the abode of eternity, for there is the resting place.

To an eternal dwelling found
