تمُـدّyou stretch out يديْكَyour two hands .. أمـُدُّI stretch out يَدَيّاmy two hands
I return in the evening, and you run to me.
You stretch out your hands; I stretch out mine.

You vanish in an embrace; I vanish in kisses.
From all the world, we vanish together.

So I bury my day's burdens with you,
And you bury the day's longing with me.

“Are these always your gifts to me?!”
Indeed, my son, you have said something outrageous.

ولولاكand were it not for you ماnot ذقْتُI tasted ظلْماًinjustice شهيّاdelicious
Do you wrong me? Your injustice is sweet, delicious.
And without you, I would never have tasted delicious injustice.
فعاتبْso reproach ، وكرِّرْand repeat .. أناI لاdo not أَمَلُّgrow weary
وكيفand how أَمَلُّcould I tire of العِتابَthe reproach الهنِيّاdelightful ؟!
So reproach me, and repeat it—I do not tire.
And how could I tire of delightful reproach?

Take command of my love, of the beats of my heart,
Of the steps along my path—take command, my little son.

For if I could, I would carry the gifts,
The gifts of nations, upon my palms.

وراءَbehind النجومthe stars ، وسُقتُand I would herd الثريّاthe Pleiades
And if I could, I would herd the stars,
Star after star, and herd the Pleiades.

And my soul and my eye, holding nothing back.

“I love you with a great, great love,
And I love the Prophet even more than I love you.”
