1. وجفن عانقَ الجفنا

    ونامت أعينٌ وَسْنى

    And one eyelid embraced the other,

    And drowsy eyes slept,

  2. ونام الكونُ في صمتٍ

    فماجَ سكونُه لحنا

    And the universe slept in silence,

    So its stillness surged into melody,

  3. فداعَبَ لحنُه روحي

    ورُحتُ أُغافلُ الكوْنا

    So its melody caressed my soul,

    And I began to evade the universe’s notice,

  4. فلم يشهدْ سوى قلبي

    زفافَ اللفظ والمعنى

    So none but my heart witnessed

    The wedding of word and meaning.

  5. أشعرٌ لاح ، أم سحرٌ ؟!

    أجنَّاتٌ هنا تُجنى ؟!

    Is it poetry that has appeared, or magic?!

    Are gardens being harvested here?!

  6. فلونٌ يقتفي لونا

    وحُسنُ يشتكي حسنا

    So color follows color,

    And beauty complains of beauty.

  7. فسبحان الذي أعطى

    وسبحان الذي أغنى

    So glory be to Him who gave,

    And glory be to Him who enriched.
