عِلمِيmy knowledge بِقَلبِيَof my heart ماnot لانَتsoftened قَساوَتُهُits hardness
حَتّىuntil تَصَدّتconfronted لَهُto it عَيناكَyour two eyes ياO قاسِيcruel one
I know my heart: its hardness never softened
My heart knew no hardness until your eyes turned harshly away
Until your eyes confronted it, O cruel one.
With the magic of your eyes I could not pretend patience
بِسِحرِby the magic of عَينَيكyour two eyes لَمّاnot yet أَستَطِعI can manage جَلَداًendurance
فَهاso here أَناI الآنnow مِنof صَبريmy patience عَلىin ياسِdespair
Under the spell of your eyes, I have not yet been able to endure.
So now my patience has gone, oh woe!
So here I am now, despairing of my patience.
Stop blaming, I'm infatuated, burdened
دَعِcease التَجَنّيَunjust blame إِنّيindeed I مُغرَمٌenamored كَلِفٌbesotted
رَهِينُa captive of وَجدٍpassion وَأَشواقٍand longings وَوَسواسِand obsessive thoughts
Cease your unjust blame; I am enamored and besotted,
A hostage of passion, longing, and obsession
A captive of passion, longings, and obsessive thoughts.
If only you would show me some kindness, O my hope
أَلاwill you not مَنَنتَyou bestowed favor بِعَطفٍwith tenderness مِنكَfrom you ياO أَمَليmy hope
فَماfor what عَلَيكupon you فَدَتكَmay it ransom you النَفسُthe soul مِنof باسِharm
Will you not grant me your tenderness, O my hope?
For my soul ransoms itself for your wellbeing
For what harm would it do you—may my soul be your ransom?
Yearning has ignited in me
لَقَدindeed تَناهَتreached the utmost بِيَwith me الأَشواقُthe longings فَاِشتَعَلَتso blazed up
نِيرانُthe fires of قَلبيmy heart وَأَذكَتand stoked حَرَّthe heat of أَنفاسِيmy breaths
Indeed, longings have driven me to the limit, and there blazed
The fires of my heart and kindled the heat of my breath
The fires of my heart, stoking the heat of my breath.
If not for you, I'd never have known love
لَولاكwere it not for you لَولاكَwere it not for you لَمnot أَعرِفI know هَوىًlove أَبَداًever
فَحُبّكُمso love for you all فيin فُؤادِيmy heart ثابِتٌsteadfast راسِfirmly established
But for you, but for you, I would never have known love.
For your love in my heart is firmly rooted
So my love for you is steadfast and firm within my heart.
