The eras of history gazed, and Time turned its head,
Anchoring the spheres of nature upon the generations.
Visions of the past loomed upon the horizon of my mind,
From which the white scrolls of history emerged, gleaming bright.
I see the pages of glory, their longing fluttering within,
While a yearning pours forth, which poetry translates.
From them smiled the light, the purity, and the redemption,
And sweetened by their memory was the unfolding of the tale.
Upon a night encompassed by the full moon of its stars,
Whose gathering in love was a radiant assembly.
Resembling a garden whose lofty trees diffused perfume,
Adorned by blossoms from the lushness of its splendor.
Youth and children with radiance upon their faces,
And elders crowned with dignity, who remain a treasured store.
I greet this assembly from my heart, my soul, and my mind,
And who could grant me such grace to adorn my breast?
Was this not from the bounty of a blessed night,
Wherein that holy month granted us the meeting?
The lights thronged together, casting their gleaming rays,
Upon the noblest of battlefields in the purest of lands.
So from every age, the spirit of a knight drew near,
To a battle wherein heroism and victory reside.
Here stands the Messenger of God, with the Companions around him,
Their swords a light by which the ages are illumined.
And here the soldiers of God appeared in a procession,
Supporting the army of Truth—behold, here is Badr!
Fluttering down from its horizons across the realms,
They circle its history like brilliant stars.
And upon the Near Bank, knights stand watch,
God is their aid, and the promise of good tidings is upon their faces.
While on the Far Bank lie the chieftains of error,
Over whom Satan hovers like an ominous bird.
And when the two hosts clashed, a Muslim cried "God is Great!"
The voice of Truth thundered, and disbelief was vanquished.
There lies Abu Jahl, and there Shaiba too,
And Utba, while panic strikes terror into the idols.
Such are the houses of the spider, and they have collapsed,
And the frailest house is that which wickedness took for shade.
And in a corner of the field of victory and sacrifice,
The battalions of God, crowned by triumph.
While the face of God's Messenger beams with light,
And around him stand the heroes of Badr, of high renown.
They saw that the promise of God is truth and reality,
And all around them, their maiden victory dawned.
Victory is but a grace from God, who cast the blow,
Through the hands of warriors, in whose resolve lies patience.
