Whenever I fight for you, I love you more.

What soil but this soil is made of musk and ambergris?

What horizon in the world, other than this horizon, is fragrant?

Whenever I defend your land, the branch of life grows green.

And my wing, O Palestine, is unfurled upon the summit.

O you whose Palestinian name inspires and enchants!

The brown hue of your cheeks bears witness that beauty is brown.

I still read in your eyes the song of Abqar.

And on their two shores, the waves of Akka break.

From the remnants of our tears, have the lemon trees blossomed?

And the garden plots wept after us, and the meadow grew desolate.

And the vines of wine-red grapes tore a thousand waistcloths.

The sparrows of the pines no longer embrace the hillside.

And the stars of night no longer keep vigil over Carmel.
