    أقضي الليالي السود في نجواك

    I spend the dark nights in whispered communion with you.

  3. أرنو إليكعلى بعادك مثلما

    يرنو الحزين لساطع الأفلاك

    I gaze toward you, despite your distance, just as

    The sorrowful one gazes at the heavens' shining light.

  4. وأبث للنجم المسهد لوعتي

    يا ليتنيبعد النوى ألقاك

    And I confide my anguish to the sleepless star:

    Oh, if only I could meet you after separation!

  5. ما كنت أؤمن بالعيون وفعلها

    حتى دهتني في الهوى عيناك

    I never believed in eyes and their power

    Until your eyes overwhelmed me with love.

  6. الحسن قد ولاك حقا عرشه

    فتحكمي في قلب من يهواك

    Beauty has truly bestowed its throne upon you;

    So rule the heart of the one who loves you.

  7. قلبي كما تبغين إلف صبابة

    قد مل كل خريدة إلاك

    My heart, as you wish, is a companion to yearning;

    It has tired of every maiden but you.

  8. بالله يا أملي الحبيب ترفقي

    إني وربك في الهوى مضناك

    By God, O my beloved hope, be gentle;

    Indeed, by your Lord, I am lovesick for you.'

  9. فرنت إلي وقد تألق لحظها

    أفديه من لحظ رنا فتاك

    Then she gazed at me, her glance radiant;

    I would give my life for that glance, so deadly in its gaze.

  10. ونضت عن الوجه الوسيم وتمتمت

    يا روحه الظمأى علي رواك

    And she uncovered her lovely face and murmured:

    'O his thirsty soul, your thirst is mine to quench.'

  11. وتعانق الروحان في روض الهوى

    فثملت حتى غبت عن إدراكي

    And the two souls embraced in the garden of love,

    So I grew drunk until I lost all awareness.
