How can I love you, when my heart's tenderness
How I love you, a flutter of my heart
has set my soul ablaze amid the darkness of the present?
My soul set alight by the darkness of the present
ودعانيand called to me منكfrom you طيفa phantom ساهرsleepless
كيفhow لاnot أهوىI love خيالimage السامرthe night companion
And a sleepless phantom of you has called to me.
And a sleepless apparition of you called me
How could I not love the image of the night companion?
How could I not love the fantasy of one who keeps vigil?
أنتyou ياO روحيmy soul وبهجةand the delight ناظريmy gaze
أنتyou تشفينيyou heal me بحبّwith love غامرoverwhelming
You, O my soul and the delight of my gaze,
You, O my soul, are the joy of my sight
You heal me with an overwhelming love.
You heal me with intrepid love

What do the torments of passion matter to us?
No torment of passion can touch us
Love has indeed risen above the affliction wrought by the betrayer.
Love has triumphed over the cruelty of the betrayer

If only we could live amid the delights of our hopes,
If only we could live for the sweetness of desire
We sow longing in fragrant air.
And sow longing in a fragrant breeze

We vanquish the envious; we wish them nothing
We’ll defeat the envious, wishing them
but sorrow and an ill-starred fate.
Nothing but worry and a wretched fate
