Roam, my thought; embrace al-Aqsa, and do not stray.

And weep seas of blood, and shed tears over the sanctuaries.

Convey my greetings and my longing, and apologize for a young man

Who lives a captive and possesses nothing but words.

    لَكِنَّ يَوْمًا سَيُضْحِي فِيهِ كَالْحِمَمِ

    Even my verse is captive, like its poet;

Yet a day will come when it becomes like lava.

    شَوْقِي وَوَجْدِيَ نِيرَانٌ مِنَ الأَلَمِ

    Longing has surged for al-Aqsa, for my Jerusalem;

My longing and my passion are fires born of pain.

Meeting has become impossible, yet longing drives me on.

And these borders are prisons, so quench your thirst with a dream.

    وَالْحُلْمُ يُسْلِيهِ فِي أَسْرٍ وَفِي الْغَمَمِ

    For a young man's drop of water saves him in the deserts;

And a dream consoles him in captivity and sorrow.

So carry her soil, kiss her land, and stand

At the Rock; remember the age of honor and generosity.

Remember the time of Salah, and weep over an age

When tyrants and the unjust rose among the nations.

They have united their ranks; did they share

Any covenant other than to destroy Islam?

And the Arabs' rulers are lions when they stand

Against the peoples who have become like moldering remains.

Killing and the torture of free men—and their might

Has never softened; none can rival one of such resolve.

For if Salah al-Din came to them, they would rise up,

So he would end up captive, or they would send him to the grave.

And in their eyes he would become the head of extremism and

Terrorism; he would become an agent seeking power.

But when they are set against the Jews, you will never

See them as anything but flocks of sheep!

For war to them is forever 'flight and flight.'

Their armies are their shield against the revolt of the masses.

They are the tyrants, the chiefs of humiliation; their scheming

Is the scheming of devils—bodies made of darkness.

They have fought the banner of Islam and invented

For the Arabs banners of tyranny and their humiliation.

And with each day that passes while they rule,

We plunge into the depths of a sea of abasement and afflictions.

Roam, my thought; embrace the moans from her blood.

Her sufferings spill moans from my pain.

And make them both a curse that strikes down tyrants and those who

Have betrayed the covenants, and those who live like livestock.

Today she inscribes an epic in history,

    Despite betrayal, criminality, and sorrow.

Her women have woven honor into robes:

A bereaved mother and a widow, bearing the burden of orphanhood,

Drowning in a sea of sorrow, with no rescuer in sight,

They have become mountains of consolation and resolve.

They revived an age, so today we behold it,

And its grave had lain between storytelling and dreams.

    أَضْحَيْنَ هُنَّ لَنَا كَالنُّورِ فِي الغَسَمِ

    They have become Khansa in giving and sacrifice;

They themselves have become for us like light in the dusk.

    أَرْضَعْنَهُ عِزَّةَ الأَحْرَارِ وَالصِّمَمِ

    They gifted our nation a generation of heroes;

They nursed it on the pride of the free and the valiant.

How many children's joys they burn away!

Orphanhood and displacement—or they live among graves.

But these are the sons of al-Khansa—oh, what a wonder!

The infant's crying is a roar that terrifies non-Arabs.

Her boys are like lions that do not fear death.

Oh, the stones—what might and what gains!

Oh, the hands that hurl them—may they remain unharmed!

As though they hurl light upon the darkness.

Oh, the souls that are bought, offering themselves in sacrifice!

Oh, the chests that are stripped bare of delusion!

Oh, innocence, when it rises up, striking terror!

Oh, the hearts purified of defeat!

Her youth are a shining mark upon our nation's face,

Like a star in the deserts, or a full moon in the dark.

The sound of bombs has become rapture to them,

O nation drowned in dancing and melody!

Their hearts have exuded the fragrance of love for martyrdom,

O nation drowned in passion and disgrace!

    هُمْ كَالأُسُودِ فَلَمْ تَرْهَبْ مِنَ الأُمَمِ

    They are like falcons that never miss their prey;

They are like lions, unafraid of the nations.

Monks by night—marvel at their tears!

Are they doves, or lions among the thickets?

Or are they the vanguard of glad tidings, our nation's victory,

Erasing an age of sorrows and afflictions?

    لا يَعْبَؤُونَ بِخَوَّانٍ وَمُنْهَزِمِ

    They are the Prophet's glad tidings; through them hearts come alive;

They heed no habitual traitor or defeated man.

O Jerusalem, be patient! These moans of yours have blazed

In the soul of every proud person burdened by oppression.

    غَدًا تَثُورُ عَلَى الطُّغْيَانِ كَالْحِمَمِ

    Your blood is dearer to the free than their own blood;

Tomorrow it will erupt against tyranny like lava.

O Lord, I have been counted among her poets; so be generous,

And make me one of her lions in her raging war.

O Lord, water her soil with the blood of a young man

Who hopes to meet her as a champion, faithful to his covenants.
