يَاO رَبِّmy Lord مَاnot لِيfor me سِوَاكَother than You
مِنْany مَلْجَأٍrefuge، فِيin حِمَاكَYour protection
O my Lord, I have none but You
O Lord, I have none but You as refuge
as a refuge, in Your protection.
In Your protection I seek shade
قَدْindeed أَرْهَقَتْنِيexhausted me ذُنُوبِيmy sins
وَأَوْرَدَتْنِيand brought me to الْهَلاكَruin
My sins have exhausted me
My sins have exhausted me
and brought me to ruin.
And brought me ruin
فَأَثْقَلَتْنِيso weighed me down هُمُومِيmy worries
فَلَمْso did not أَجِدْI find لِيfor myself فِكَاكَrelease
So my worries weighed me down,
My worries made me heavy
and I found no release for myself,
And I found no escape
حَتَّىuntil هَوَيْتُI fell بِجُبٍّinto a pit
وَصِرتُand I became أَرْجُوI hope for سَنَاكَYour radiance
until I fell into a pit
Until I fell into an abyss
and began to hope for Your radiance.
And hoped for Your help
فَصِرْتُso I became حَيًّاalive كَمَيْتٍlike one dead
يَرْجُوhopes for لِقَلْبٍfor a heart حَرَاكَmovement
So I became a living man like one dead,
I became alive like a dead one
hoping for a heart to stir.
Hoping for my heart to stir
تَضَرُّعِيmy humble entreaty وَابْتِهَالِيand my supplication
بِدَمْعِwith the tears of عَاصٍa sinner جَفَاكَforsook You
My humble entreaty and my supplication
My pleading and beseeching
are offered with the tears of a sinner who forsook You.
With the tears of one who disobeyed You
وَصِرْتُand I became أَدْعُوI pray وَأَرْجُوand I hope
مُؤَمِّلاًhoping for رُحْمَاكَYour mercy
And I began to pray and hope,
And I started calling and hoping
hoping for Your mercy.
Awaiting Your mercy
فَارْحَمْso have mercy on ضَعِيفًاa weak man مُقِرًّاadmitting
بِذَنْبِهِto his sin قَدْindeed أَتَاكَhas come to You
So have mercy on a weak man who admits
So have mercy on a weak confessor
his sin and has come to You.
Who came to You with his sin
تَبَتُّلِيmy devotion وَصَلاتِيand my prayer
أَدْعُوI pray وَأَرْجُوand I hope for رِضَاكَYour pleasure
In my devotion and my prayer,
My devotion and my prayers
I pray and hope for Your pleasure.
I call and hope for Your pleasure
فَاغْفِرْso forgive ذُنُوبِيmy sins وَهَبْنِيand grant me
فِيin كُلِّall أَمْرِيmy affairs هُدَاكَYour guidance
So forgive my sins and grant me
Forgive my sins and grant me
Your guidance in all my affairs.
In all my affairs Your guidance
وَكُنْand be مُعِينِيmy helper لأَغْدُوso that I may become
عَبْدًاa servant كَأَنِّيas though I أَرَاكَI see You
And be my helper, so that I may become
And be my helper so I can become
a servant, as though I see You.
A servant as if I see You
I meet
فَالْفَوْزُfor triumph نَيْلُattaining رُؤَاكَthe sight of You
Perhaps I may behold Your face,
Perhaps I will meet Your face
for triumph is attaining the sight of You.
For meeting You is the greatest prize
فَيَاso, oh لَسُعْدَىwhat bliss وَبُشْرَىand glad tidings
عَبْدٍa servant أَحَبَّloved لِقَاكَmeeting You
So, what bliss and glad tidings
Oh, the joy and glad tidings
for a servant who loved meeting You!
For a servant who loved to meet You
يَاO رَبِّmy Lord وَعْدَكَYour promise أَرْجُوI hope for
دَاعٍa supplicant، أَجِبْanswer مَنْwhoever دَعَاكَcalled upon You
O my Lord, I put my hope in Your promise.
O Lord, I hope for Your promise
I am a supplicant; answer whoever has called upon You.
Respond to one who called upon You
