I am the spirit of my nation and the shield of armored warriors.

I am a woman, yet I am the terror of my enemies.

I am a nation, not merely a mother bearing her children,

nor lust on display before gazing eyes.

I am purity in this life, and my chastity

spreads its fragrance whenever I walk the streets.

And this veil of mine is protection from a treacherous arrow,

like the most precious pearls kept safe within shells.

I take al-Khansa' as my model; we champion our faith.

And the enemies' wish is that I lose myself,

walk the path of desire and despise piety,

living a life of desire, debauchery, and prostitutes.

They wanted my life amid goblets, so they could drown

the rightly guided youth in debauchery and among beautiful women.

They wanted such a fate for me—what wretched humiliation for my nation!

And how wretched the lions' destruction amid lusts!

    يَقُولُونَ: إِنِّي نِصْفُ مُجْتَمَعَاتِي

    They make the path of temptation and ruin alluring to me;

they say that I am half of my communities.

Have they not realized that I myself am the people in their entirety?

I am mercy bestowed; I have given my life.

I am the spirit; my revival gives life to my nation,

though the enemies had deemed it less than mortal remains.

I shall bear heroes who restore our glory,

armies of men like al-Qa'qa', the pride of armored warriors.

I shall nurse them on love of martyrdom and piety,

and the defense of my Islam and the valor of the unbowed.

I am the light; through me our night's deep darkness vanishes.

I shall bring moons that illuminate the darkness.

And one day I shall bring suns to end the

nights of sorrow, humiliation, and afflictions.
