O fairest of those my eye has seen,

And you have no equal among humankind.

So if one day we were far apart,

How could I bear separation from you?

Can the heart live after you are gone?

It lives, yet has no hope.

And does the eye have any sight?

And without you, all it sees is ruins.

And does life have any meaning?

    Without you, it is tedium.

You dwelt in the heart as mistress

Of a heart whose love is immense.

    بِبُعْدِكِ يَنْتَهِي الأَجَلُ

    And you are the soul in my body;

When you are far away, my allotted life ends.

So, O my life, and O my hope,

When will my soul be complete?
