O my brother, captive in the prison of death,

Is there any protector today like patience?

If you uphold the faith this day, you will have

been true to God in your earlier words.

You have sought eternity through this world; so, O—

Live a life of honor in the world of the noble.

Leave aside whoever sold faith and proud defiance,

To wander a lifetime in the world of the ignoble.

O my brother, victory has appeared—do you see?

And sincere hearts from behind the clouds.

Men rose for the faith and offered up

Their worldly share and a life of ease,

So that faith and light may rule over darkness,

And an oppressed captive be freed from bondage.

    لا تُبَالِي السَّوْطَ أَوْ لُقْيَا الْحِمَامِ

    O my brother, steadfastly support our Islam;

Pay no heed to the lash or to meeting death.

Has the free man wasted his life through proud defiance?

Does breaking one's pledges lengthen life?

So be a lion when battle comes,

And be a mighty mountain amid great ordeals.

O my brother, never fear their tyranny.

Does faith, then, fear the rabble?

And even if we have lived a while in darkness,

Be like the full moon's light, shining in the darkness.

And even if a raging wound has pained us,

Surely the wounds of unbelief are watered by my pains.

And the wounds of peace bleed toward healing,

And the wounds of unbelief bleed toward death.

So be a light when darkness falls,

So uphold the faith—you are a protector today.
