I remembered you, O people dear to me, though I had been taken far

By my dwelling, with neither companions nor family beside me.

Whenever we recall a time of companionship, it is only

Tears streaming from the eye that rush upon us.

And I weep for a necklace whose beads have scattered:

Elders and brothers, whose young men are mature.

We all dwelt together in safety and joy,

And from the clouds above us came a downpour of blessings.

And now it lies desolate, and its people are left

With their necklace unstrung after their former unity.
