O life of poems, you never slumber in my blood;
The age of poems throbs in my blood and does not sleep
My homeland is their ending, and you their opening.
And my homeland is their conclusion, and you are their beginning

They gather around you confusedly..and I wake up to

Their leaves fingers pleading!
Find my ribs stretching out those branches!

And I see my arteries and my veins upon
With love what I fear, and what I expect
Their leaves, as fingertips pleading!
So I reached through you a horizon, and through myself a horizon

O my lord, you taught me to know
Between them love is the smoothest path
Through love, what I fear and what I expect.
And whether you are present or absent my poems

So through you I reached one horizon, and through myself another;
Ring like church bells pealing
Love is the clearest path between the two.
And I exalt your memory my master over the memory of those

In your presence and absence, my poems—
Who fell, pardon me, for your greatness intercedes
Their bells toll like church bells!
Those wretches' faces in the filth of the invaders
وأand I (verb prefix) ُجِلُّrevere (completion) ذِكرَكَyour memory سَيِّديmy lord عَنabove ذِكْرmention of ِمَنthose who

And I exalt your memory, my lord, above mentioning those
Are of vileness and meanness disguising itself
Who fell; my excuse is that your greatness intercedes.
I have not said a verse of poetry, and Iraq embracing me,
أولاءِthose فيin دَنَسthe filth of ِالغُزاةِinvaders وجوهُهُمtheir faces

Those—their faces, amid the invaders' filth,
Except that they were like scorpions stinging my blood
Mask themselves with baseness and vileness.
So their memory comes, sullying my words
ماnot قُلتُI uttered شِعراpoetry ً، والعراقُwhile Iraq مُعانِقيembraces me

Never have I spoken poetry, with Iraq embracing me,
Until I feel my words writhing in pain!
Without their being scorpions stinging in my blood.
So I return and grasp Iraq and its symbol

Then their mention comes, sullying my letters,
To preserve poetry unsullied
Until I feel my letters suffering!
My God..does this rabble

So I return to hold fast to Iraq and its symbol,
Perceive the awe of your name? How do they not elevate themselves?
In proud disdain, I guard poetry, lest it falter.
Who chooses you as his champion thereby turning away from all those
أللهَGod! ياO هذاyou .. أتَنتَبِهُdo they take heed الدُّthe worlds (fragment) ناending of 'the worlds'

God! O you—do the worlds take heed
Who approach you, for your arrow is swifter?
Of the majesty of your name? How could he not rise above,
And for your immense pride its voice

And because the voice of your great chivalry
In that you are the proudest and most exalted celestial orb
Is higher, and your sword in hardships sharper!
And that you are the flame that does not die out

Throughout both lives, you stood apart from humankind,
And that you are the pillar that does not sleep!
In being the most cherished, loftiest celestial sphere,
My master.. O zenith of all my poems

And in being the radiance that never goes out,
You whom my pen, like my heart, is inclined towards
And in being the sleeplessness that never slumbers!
And thus when I write all my letters

أبوابَناour doors بِدمائِهِwith his blood ، وَيَصيحُand cries : لاno
حتىuntil مَتىwhen وَضَميرُكُمand your conscience لاnot يَفزَعُtakes alarm؟!
At our doors with his blood, and crying: No!
Handed over the House of Prophethood to the wolves, and hurried
How long will your conscience remain unalarmed?!
To their loyalty.. And today here you are doing
مِنfrom قَبْلbefore ِألفٍa thousand أسلَمَتْsurrendered آباؤكُمyour fathers
بَيتَthe house of النُّبُوَّةprophethood ِلِلذto the wolves (fragment) ِّئابِending of 'wolves' ، وأسرَعواand hurried
A thousand years ago, your fathers surrendered
As they did, so who of you is more disgraceful and anguished?!
The house of prophethood to the wolves, and hurried
I hear his voice from Karbala
لِوَلائِهِمto allegiance to them..واليَومَand today هاhere أنتُمyou كَماjust as
فَعَلواthey did، فَمَنso who منكُمamong you أذmore abject (fragment) َلُّending of 'more abject' وأفجَعُand more appalling ؟!
To pledge them allegiance; today, here you are, just as
Growing louder, and the conscience of the lowly splitting:
They did—so who among you is more abject and more appalling?!
O you who spill the blood of Iraq, and from my blood
إنِّيindeed I لأسمَعُI certainly hear صَوتَهُhis voice مِنfrom كَربَلاKarbala

Indeed, I hear his voice from Karbala
Its blood, to America you volunteer!
Rising, as the hearts of the worlds are wrenched apart:
To the Jews of the whole world, or to its dogs
ياO سافِحينَspillers of دَمَthe blood of العراقIraq ِ،وَمِنand of دَميmy blood

O you who spill Iraq's blood—and of my blood
Do not be ashamed of yourselves, nor recoil
Is its blood—for America, who donates it
Once again?? And will they not gloat
لِيَهودِto the Jews of كلِّall of الأرضthe earth ِ، أوor لِكلابِهاto its dogs
لاnot تَستَحيshe feels shame منكمbefore you ، ولاnor تَتَورَّعُshe exercises restraint
To the Jews of all the earth, or to its dogs,
The scoundrels of America, and will they not vilify
Unashamed before you and without restraint.
But you, your wind will depart
أفَمَرَّةso, once? ً أfragment of 'another' ُخرىanother (completion)؟؟..ولنand will not يَتَسَنَّشنواbecome Sunnis (apparent typo)

أوغادُthe scoundrels of أمريكاAmerica ، وَلَنْand will not يَتَشَيَّعُواbecome Shiites
So, once again? They will never become Sunnis,
When every joint for you splits!
America's scoundrels, nor will they become Shiites.
O owner of two feasts..the feast of his existence
لكنَّكُمbut you أنتُمyou سَتَذهَبُwill pass away ريحُكُمyour wind

But you—your wind will die away,
And ascension to God a star shining
As every bond of yours is severed!
Rejoice, for a third feast we strive for

Rejoice! A third feast, for which we strive,
Will come, filled with your wafting fragrance!
