Wait for me, so my sorrow may complete its cycle

and the birds may hide in the heart of night,

where the familiar clamor will never return to disturb the stillness.

I am not Christ, for God to raise me into His eternity,

nor am I Noah, able to survive the water.

But I am a man full of distances.

I know what sends morning into the soul of an olive tree,

and what sends light into the depths of a swing.

Yet I do not love the day!

    Emptiness is not the emptiness of a place;

it is a time belonging to rays, not to elements,

a time vacant of existence itself

    and of that interwoven world.

    I feel it, my God.

I feel it in the mystery of mirrors

and in the pulses of mist.

I see it at the farthest reach of the seas' spirit

and the last shade of the grove.

I watch it in the glint of an eye

that says to its owner: Do not leave me.

I behold it in the burning of a meteor

and in the melting of sunset over a high peak.

Thus I can coax the absolute to reveal itself.

I long, emptiness grows tender, and poetry catches fire.

Then it draws near, as though its stairs were a low-hanging vine.

As though I will ascend on vapors of mist

that cleave the sky with the lightness of their speed

    through the veins of time!

    Emptiness: its reality ripples

in the heart of places turning green,

    where the girl who awoke

in the blaze of monotonous existence

travels through a corner of the poetic world.

She opens her balcony to await letters.

She spins her tear so she may see the universe as wider.

She knows what the poem has hidden in its poet's heart:

    dewy air

and grass that lights up the eyes with wonder

to the ends of the earth!

Who will sing with me to awaken this beauty

in the souls of those who close the windows?

I am weary of the hard world.

I have died, suffocating from war.

And people do not realize that the orbit of emptiness

is life, and a dawn that extends the hand of love,

free of the grudges of those who make bombs.

They do not realize that emptiness is the primal simplicity of living within us,

    and a song from

    the echo of vigor.
