دَعاcalled الوَطَنُthe homeland الذَبيحُslaughtered إِلىto الجِهادِarmed struggle
فَخَفَّso leapt لِفَرطِfrom the intensity of فَرحَتِهِits joy فُؤاديmy heart
The slaughtered homeland called to battle,
So my heart leapt for sheer joy.
وَسابَقتُand I raced النَسيمَthe breeze وَلاand without اِفتِخارٌboasting
أَلَيسَis it not عَلَيَّincumbent on me أَنto أُفديsacrifice myself for بِلاديmy country
And I raced the breeze—this is no boast:
Is it not my duty to sacrifice myself for my country?
حَمَلتُI carried عَلىupon يَديmy hand روحيmy soul وَقَلبيand my heart
وَماand not حَمَّلتُهاI loaded it إِلّاexcept عَتاديmy battle gear
I carried my soul and my heart upon my hand,
And loaded it with nothing but my battle gear.
وَقُلتُand I said لِمَنto whoever يَخافُfears مِنَof المَناياdeath
أَتَفرَقُdo you fear مِنof مُجابِهَةِconfronting الأَعاديthe enemies
And I said to whoever fears death:
Are you afraid of confronting the enemy?
أَتَقعُدُwill you sit idle وَالحِمىwhile the homeland يَرجوكَimplores you عَوناًfor aid
وَتَجبُنُand shrink in fear عَنfrom مُصاوَلَةِfighting الأَعاديthe enemies
Will you sit idle while the homeland begs your aid,
And shrink from combat with the enemy?
فَدونَكَthen there before you is خِدرُthe secluded chamber of أُمِّكَyour mother فَاِقتَحِمهُso storm into it
وَحَسبُكَand enough for you is خِسَّةُthe baseness of هذاthis التَهاديdawdling
Then there is your mother's secluded chamber—storm into it!
And this dawdling is disgrace enough for you.

For homelands have stalwart soldiers,
Who mete out destruction to any aggressor.

They face hardships without complaint,
Fierce warriors on the fields of combat.

You see them in battle as raging lions,
Staunch helpers when the caller calls.

Sons of my homeland, the day of sacrifices draws near,
Radiant upon the hills of the land of resurrection.

Who, then, is the sacrificial ram but youth,
Defiant, refusing to live under oppression?

And who is there for war if its blaze erupts?
And from whom but you comes the striking of the flint?

So march to the just struggle as a fire
Poured upon the foe in every valley.

For none is baser than a people holding back
From the great ordeal while its homeland calls.

Sons of my homeland, awaken from slumber,
For after oppression there can be no slumber.

Of iron that never breaks apart.

That the sons of our Arab nation have meekly submitted,
And their striving has missed the path of right guidance.
